Given the fact that we are currently doing virtual meetings on Sundays, we thought it would be helpful to consider a few ways that we can make the most of this time. We are grateful for the gift of technology that allows us to stay connected, even if it falls woefully short of what happens when we gather together in the same room. Below are some tips for how to make the most of these times together.
1) Come prepared for worship. It could be tempting to be a bit more passive with regard to these moments, but as Christians we have the conviction that we need the preaching of God’s Word and times to express our worship together through song. Dads and moms, let’s lead the way in preparing our own hearts as well as those of our children by praying ahead of the meeting, having our Bibles open and ready, along with singing our hearts out as we join those leading.
2) Be present. Hudson Taylor famously said, “wherever you are, be all there.” I love that. And it applies especially to times of worship, even more so when it would be easy to check out. So put away your cell phone, turn off any other apps on your laptop, have your Bible open and in your lap, and take notes.
3) Show up early. Don’t wait until 10am to log on. We will start promptly at 10:00 with a call to worship, so make sure you’ve already found the right spot for you and/or your family to tune in. Consider having crayons and snacks already set out for the younger kids before we begin.
4) Pray. We are all in this together and we need the Lord to help us. We need wisdom, grace, and power from the Spirit to thrive together as the body of Christ even in the midst of a pandemic. God is able and eager to hear and answer our prayers. So let’s pray some big ones! It is a joy to be part of this together with you dear saints.
We love you all, and eagerly await the day that we’ll be back together in the same room.
