The Gospel and Suffering

This is the outline from week 3 of our Gospel Life class. 

  1. The Gospel Creates Access to God
    1. Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

 

  1. The Gospel Makes God our Father
    1. 1 John 3:1 – See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

 

  1. The Gospel Reveals a Suffering Savior
    1. Heb 4:14-16 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

 

  1. The Gospel Assures us that God uses suffering for our Good
    1. Overrules evil
    2. Reveals genuine faith, which increases our assurance.

 

  1. The gospel Guarantees that suffering will come to an end.
    1. Romans 5:9 – Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
    2. Revelation 21:4 – He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

 

  1. The gospel releases us from the worst suffering.
