Pastoral prayer from Micah 6:8

Pastoral prayer from Micah 6:8

"He has told you, O man, what is good;
    and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
    and to walk humbly with your God?" - Micah 6:8 (ESV)

Father of mercy, we come to you this morning with a desperate need for your mercies which you promise new every morning. Our city, our country, and our world are experiencing various shades of anger, fear, frustration, and broken hearts. We all know something is wrong, and there is no shortage of conflicting opinions of what needs to be done about it. How long, o lord?  ... As your people our longing for your return has only been intensified. Indeed we pray, come lord Jesus.

Father, we pray this morning that you would give us a holy awareness of the supremacy of Christ in the world today. Lead us, your people, to fall on our knees with hearts of contrition over sin and cries of deliverance for the oppressed. Give us conviction to walk as your ambassadors in love and humility toward one another.

You have commanded us to do justice... Every man, woman and child have been created in your image with dignity and worth as a result. Help us to relate to one another in this world as fellow image bearers, treating one another with respect, showing grace to those with who, we differ, demonstrating love even and especially to our enemies, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ.

Our world is wrecked by sin, and every one of us is directly affected. Please help us to put away injustice and partiality from our hearts, that we would take no part in the wicked deeds or even thoughts of this world, but rather walking in and contending for justice in the land.

Help us to love one another the way that you have loved us both in words and in action.

We pray for all those who are oppressed that you would grant grace to endure and freedom from injustice and bring their suffering to a glorious end.

We pray for our governing authorities and law enforcement officers, that you would give them great wisdom along with hearts of justice to govern and rule in such a way that leads to peace. We pray especially for those in our government who are called by your name, that you would grant them, particular favor to speak with clarity and winsomeness, and that you would amplify their voices and increase their influence as they rule over the land.

Father, as we bring these desperate needs to you we do so aware that You have already taken care of our greatest need in sending Jesus to pay the price of all the sins of those who trust in you, and that when Jesus was raised he was raised to demonstrate your power and victory over our enemy. We know that one day, ONE GREAT DAY you will finally and completely triumph over all evil and eradicate it from your world forever. We long for that day!!! until then, we pray that you would set a fresh fire in our hearts for loving mercy, doing justice, and walking humbly with you.

We pray this in the magnificent name, the mighty name, the marvelous name of our savior and our king, the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
