The apostle Paul summarized his ministry as preaching “Christ and Him crucified”. Of course this does not mean that Paul didn’t instruct others in the holiness of God, righteous conduct, love for one another, godly marriage, or the dangers of heresy. He was a full spectrum teacher! However, he had a focus, a center, in his proclamation. Something he came back to over and over and that always had priority over the other doctrines. It was the person of Christ and the salvation he provided by dying for sinners on the cross and rising again.
To be a gospel centered church doesn’t require neglect of the full counsel of the Scriptures or unwillingness to speak against evil in this world or for the value of less-emphasized doctrines of Scripture. To be gospel centered means that we show the Biblical connection between all Scripture passages and the summary work of Christ as well as the connection between all of our ministries and the central message of Christ and him crucified. To be gospel centered means that we preserve our greatest passion and our most consistent preaching for the Christ message.
Treasuring the gospel in Greater Austin is the calling of Redemption Hill Church. We’ll preach it, sing it, meditate on it, and encourage each other by it. God willing we will preach, sing, meditate, and encourage many other Biblical topics as well–but none will displace our center–“Christ and Him Crucified.”
